The NT List

Here is God's 4th Commandment as found in the book of Exodus 20. Along with it  is where it is repeated in the New Testament.

Exodus 20:8-11

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

Six days you shall labor and do all your work,

10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns.

11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Mark 2:27-28

27 Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”

Colossians 2:16

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.

Note - The book to the Colossians was written to a church struggling with the movement of Gnosticism, which over-emphasized the spiritual and downplayed the physical observances. Paul was telling the church why they mattered, because they are the shadow of Christ's life. When you stand in someone's shadow you are close to him. This is where you really see him.

Hebrews 4:4-10

For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.”

And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.”

Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience,

God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”

For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God;

10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.

Note - The Gospels contain over 45 mentions of the Sabbath. It was a core component of Jesus' campaign to reestablish the right way to handle God's law. There was a mess to straighten out to show people it's true grace-filled way.
